Refugee Week Shop Work Placements
Over the last few years, our partners at Counterpoints Arts have provided paid work placements in the Refugee Week Shop for Compass Collective members who have the right to work. This year, we were delighted to offer this opportunity to Max-Philip and Lucy.
Lucy is a longstanding member of Compass, having taken part in many of our creative programmes and now working as one of our Assistant Facilitators. Max is relatively new to Compass, having joined the Empowered Class in Compass Connect earlier this year.
Over the last eight weeks, Max-Philip and Lucy have spent their Wednesdays at the Counterpoints office making the Shop run! They have sent Refugee Week posters, postcards and merch to happy customers all over the UK and beyond, and they have approved hundreds of events for the Refugee Week website. They even managed to find time for a photoshoot, showing off their gorgeous Refugee Week T-shirts!
This was Max-Philip’s first paid job in the UK. He told us, “I had an amazing time working in the office. Just seeing how professional you are and how things are done in a professional working space, have really improved my knowledge, understanding and most especially reduced my fear.”
Congratulations to Lucy and Max-Philip for completing their work placements, and a huge thank you to Counterpoints and the Refugee Week Shop team for providing such a wonderful opportunity.
