COMPASS IN THE NEWS

We were excited to have our work showcased by BBC Radio London and BBC Scotland recently. We are proud to share our work and ethos on a national platform, and to be celebrating positive stories; we see this as an important part of our work in building a more welcoming, compassionate, understanding society.

BBC Radio London

In March, Compass Artistic Director, Leah and Youth Board Co-Chair, Frank, appeared on BBC Radio London. Ahead of our collaboration on the Young Barbican Takeover Festival, they inspired the capital by talking about the importance of welcoming spaces for young people to be able to connect, create and hope for a brighter future.

Frank shared, “arts and drama is the way we young people see life… I would call it therapy.”

BBC Scotland

In April, we were invited for an interview with BBC Radio Scotland to talk about our upcoming National Lottery-funded filmmaking programme, Film Futures. Mhairi, our Programme Manager in the Highlands, and Mike, our film facilitator, shared the successes of our recent filmmaking project in the region, and discussed the importance of providing opportunities and connections for young sanctuary seekers who are dispersed in rural and isolated areas.

As Mhairi explained: “We […] create those spaces of joy and support. We have a responsibility to tell the human story and not stereotype what a refugee and asylum seeker is. The amazing thing about the film project is that we hand that responsibility over to [the young people] and they decide the stories they want to tell."

The interview was then written up into an article for BBC Scotland.
