COMPASS RESPONDS TO HOMELESSNESS CRISIS

The Welfare Team are currently supporting 20 young people with essential needs and we need your help in supporting our young people into the new year!  At Compass, 50% of our welfare cases are focused on young people who are facing homelessness and we are supporting them to access emergency accommodation as well as ensuring a plan is being put in place for longer term accommodation. In order to ensure our young people are supported through this time we have increased our case work capacity, our small but dedicated welfare team are working closely with local councils and organisations to find safe accommodation. 

As some of you may already know, there have been recent changes in the asylum policy which has shortened the 'move on' time given to newly recognised refugees to leave their Home Office accommodation. Many have as little as 1 week to find somewhere else to live, resulting in a rise of cases in refugee homelessness across the UK, this is simply not enough time! A moment that should be remembered as joyful is now being overshadowed with fear of homelessness and panic of where to go next.
